On Tuesday 14 June the Vlaamse Landmaatschappij, Quares and the local branch of Naturepunt organised a nature safari in the research park at Zellik (Asse) in order to demonstrate to the employees the beauty of the nature around their business premises. Some 25 enthusiastic walkers participated.

The walk was focused mainly on discovering the various types of orchids that were then in bloom. Species such as the bee orchid, the speckled orchid and the large beetle orchid were easily spotted. Everyone knows the orchids that are on sale in the upmarket flower shops, but the existence of wild native orchids in Flanders was a surprise for the participants. Newkomer at the research park ‘House to Be’ offered a drink after the safari. Everyone was agreed that the nature walks were worth repeating.

Quares, the new park manager will, in consultation with the VLM and the local volunteers of Naturepunt start a specially adapted mowing company. This will enable the businesses in the park to enjoy the flowers around their business premises for a long time.
